Preventing gum diseases
Periodontics is the Dentistry area in charge of preventing, diagnosing and treating gum and teeth support diseases, as well as ensuring its right maintenance, functionality and aesthetics.
Periodontal disease is the first cause of adult teeth loss, since it affects two out of every three adults. Bacterial plaque is the main factor for developing periodontal disease.
Bacterial plaque calcification (tartar) is eliminated through appropriate hygiene. Teeth tartar contributes to bacterial plaque maintenance that ends in gum irritation and swelling. Bacterial plaque modifies the normal gum set up, weakening it and allowing bacteria to get inside so it starts to swell and causes gingivitis.
Gum diseases can affect people without causing any previous pain.
Main periodontal diseases are gingivitis and periodontitis.
The first one refers to gum swelling, which manifests with bleeding and flushing due to bacterial plaque.
When gingivitis is well established, gives way to infection and bone loss around the tooth, which means periodontitis is getting started.
We are teaching from Knotgroup that maintaining an appropriate dental hygiene and early diagnose, are key to controlling periodontitis.
Regular visits to our clinics will allow preventing, detecting and treating affected areas. Hence the importance of regular revisions settled by our professionals.
